Bank cards issued in Kazakhstan increases to 9.4 million

As of 1st November 2011, banks in Kazakhstan have issued 9.367 million payment cards – a 10% increase from the previous year, as published by the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Additionally, the number of cardholders has grown by 9.6% to 8.703 million people.

In this past year, 7,974 ATMs and 27 POS terminals have been established in Kazakhstan.

In October 2011, the volume of payment card transactions amounted to 395bn tenge, a 10% growth in comparison to October 2010. The quantity of transactions also increased by 20.3% to 13.9m. Overall, the growth of non-cash payment quantified as 2.6 million transactions (25%) and 52.4 billion tenge (47.1%). Whilst, the volume and growth of ATM withdrawals accounted for 11.2 million transactions (19.2%) and 342.6 billion tenge (32.3 %), accordingly.

The basic share of non-cash payments comprised of POS terminals (31.3 % and 85%, total and volume of non-cash payments) and ATMS (34.2 % and 3.8 %, accordingly).

In Kazakhstan, payment cards are issued and carried out by 21 banks and a joint stock company, Kazpost.
