Constructors of Almaty subway are promising to build two stations every two years, according to reports by Khabar TV-channel.

Two new subway stations, Sairan and Moscow have to open in the middle of 2014. They will link the city's commuter areas with the center. Almaty subway currently carries 22 thousand people a day. Opening for two extra stations is expected to double the passengers flow.

Unlike the previous stations, construction of these stations is done using open pit method. The tunnel is not dug underground but a pit is made on the surface. This is much cheaper than drilling.

"We had a delay with this by-pass route and we went off the schedule, because there is a private sector here and the lands purchase took very long. The works on Abai street started on May 10. We have to make it in time. We are 6 months behind the schedule but I think we will make it up. There is a very good financing from the city and the state budget," chief engineer of the capital construction department of Metropoliten company Beket Baidykhanov said.
